CTBC Bank USA donates $300,000 to relief efforts being spearheaded by the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corp. 

The mission of Child Creativity Lav (CCL) is to foster the next generation of critical thinkers, problem solvers, innovators, leaders, and environmental stewards through hands-on creativity enhancing exploration.  CTBC Bank teams gather monthly to compile STEAM kits for students attending summer programs hosted by LA County Parks and Recreation.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free tax help to individuals who file simple returns and generally make $67,000 a year or less. The program is also available to persons with disabilities and limited English-speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns. IRS-certified volunteers provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals throughout the County of Los Angeles. This program is sponsored by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).  Thanks to our VITA team comprised of our Los Angeles and New York branches, families were able to access quality tax preparation and receive childcare, student, and renter’s credits, as well as understand the importance of opening accounts to receive their returns via direct deposit.

Junior Achievement of Southern California inspires and prepares young people to succeed in a global economy.  Twenty-one of our Bank staff and branches participated in a CTBC Day at JA activity where we mentored young students through a financial simulation.  These middle-schoolers learned how to plan for a budget and understand  the importance of saving money, eliminating credit card debt, and building a strong credit score in order to access capital for home purchases, small business development, college preparation ad more. 

The FDIC and the Los Angeles Alliance of Economic Inclusion invited CTBC Bank USA to participate in a Small Business Expo: Access to Capital, Financing, and Resources. Small Business and Retail Banking groups participated in a financing panel discussion related to the lending process and various types of available loans and programs. Following the panel discussion, over 50 small business owners met with representatives from other bankers, alternative lenders, and nonprofit technical assistance specialists.

AEI is a coalition of local financial institutions, consumer, community, and local government organization leaders. CTBC Bank USA supports economic inclusion for lowand moderate- income people and emerging small businesses.

CTBC Bank USA in partnership with Citrus College provided financial literacy and small business workshops to residents of the City of Glendora. Retail Banking Group participated in a fun day of basketball while providing tabling opportunities for city residents and small business owners to ask questions and tap into small business lending options. Young and old were able to enjoy the day as well as learn more about their banking relationships and needs.

CTBC Bank USA in partnership with California Council on Economic Education collaborated in an all-day conference at USC. Actress-Producer-Songwriter, Dr. Dawnn Lewis sponsored her annual Focused N F.I.T. For a Different World Conference at the campus of University of Southern California.

High School Juniors and Seniors and Collage Freshman and Sophomores, along with parents participated in a day of workshop sessions in the areas of Financial Literacy and Education, Technology, Motivation and Activation, and Health and Wellness. Parents took part in workshops which included strategies to pay for a child’s college education while getting the most out of their investments. CTBC Bank USA was honored to present various workshops including Setting Financial Goals, Charge It Right, and Paying for Cars and College.

CTBC Bank USA in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Educational Foundation hosted a Setting Financial Goals session with students from P.S. 130 in Queens, New York.

Via virtual technology, we were able to introduce young students to learning the differences between Needs vs. Wants, Spending and Saving, Setting Financial Goals, Opening a Bank Account and Life Happens scenarios dealing with Emergencies. Students walked away with a clearer understanding about their spending and savings goals as well as how Banks work.

CTBC Bank USA in partnership with Junior Achievement Southern California hosted a CTBC Bank Day at the JA Finance Park.

The Bank team mentored over 80 middle school students from Emerson Middle School. Using the latest technology, students were able to go through the budget planning process as well as tap into the expertise and career assistance of our Bank staff.

CTBC Bank USA in partnership with Junior Achievement Northern California led a financial education session with students from Sylvia Cassell Elementary School, San Jose, CA. CTBC Bank peers from Cupertino and Milpitas Branches joined together to provide “JA Our Families” curriculum to a classroom of 2nd graders (ages 7-8).

The California Council on Economic Education (CCEE) provides economics and financial literacy training and resources to K-12 teachers, students, and their families throughout California, especially in underserved communities. CCEE’s overarching mission is to help California’s students make better financial and personal decisions thereby improving their ability to succeed and compete in the global economy.The California Council on Economic Education (CCEE) sponsored their annual National Personal Finance Challenge. The PFC engages students in a practical, critical thinking application of their knowledge and understanding of personal finance in a competitive setting, with a path to compete against students from across the country. Each year, hundreds of California students and teams participate in the challenge.

Teams are comprised of three to four students and begin with an online preliminary. At this year’s state finals held at the Federal Reserve Bank located in Downtown Los Angeles, teams were given a fictional case-study of an individual, couple or household with various financial challenges and goals, and the students prepare a financial plan for this client and deliver a presentation to a panel of judges. Student teams have not seen or prepared these financial plans prior to the state finals.

CTBC CRA Officer, Robert De Acevedo, and Community Outreach Officer, Linda Maldonado, joined other Bankers from Los Angeles to serve as Presentation Judges for this event. As Judges, they had the responsibility of evaluating the live student presentations for the contest final at the venue location. Following an extensive evaluation and scoring matrix, the winning team will receive cash prizes as well as advance to the national semi-finals.
