Chairman of the Board
Morris Li is the Chairman of the Board of CTBC Bank (USA) since July 2017.
Mr. Li is the Vice Chairman of our Taiwaneses parent bank, CTBC Bank, Taiwan (CTBC).
Prior to joining CTBC, from 2010-2016 Mr. Li served as President and Executive Director of China Guangfa Bank (CGB), one of the largest national commercial banks in China and a key global strategic partner of Citigroup.
Throughout his six year tenure at CGB, Mr. Li led the bank, transforming it from a regional bank to the leading commercial bank in Greater China, with over 700 branch networks spread out across 20 Chinese provinces, 50 million retail customers and more than 40 million credit card users. Under Mr. Li’s leadership, CGB established a strategic vision and worked to build “itself into the most efficient SME bank and the best retail bank” in the region.
Previously, Mr. Li served as the Citi Country Officer of Citigroup Taiwan and as the Chairman of Citibank Taiwan Ltd., a new subsidiary established after Citi Taiwan acquired the Bank of Overseas Chinese in December 2007. The de-merger was successfully completed in August 2009. Led by Mr. Li, Citibank Taiwan was awarded the best foreign bank and most admired bank in Taiwan.
In his 20 years with Citi, Mr. Li held various senior positions in both Taipei and Hong Kong, including Country Treasurer and Head of Sales & Trading for Taiwan and Head of Corporate Sales and Structuring for Greater China, Treasury Marketing Unit Head, FX Sales & Derivatives Head and Financial & Capital Markets Head. Before rejoining Citi in 2003, Mr. Li worked served for three years Senior Executive Vice President at CTBC (then Chinatrust), leading the capital markets and treasury businesses.
Mr. Li holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the National Taiwan University.
